Upon finishing my A-levels, I was met with the decision of whether to pursue University or enter the workforce. I was offered an apprenticeship at Fidelity, and still feel that accepting this was the best decision I’ve ever made. I’ve had the opportunity to experience so many different areas of our Workplace Investing business, from call and complaint handling to operations and project management, all the way to communications. I am now enjoying my role as Marketing Manager and am so grateful to have had the opportunities to get involved in projects and obtain industry recognised qualifications whilst growing in my career.
There is a real sense of dedication when it comes to Fidelity encouraging people to be their ‘true selves’ at work. They value that our people are the heart of the organisation and to make Fidelity a safe and inclusive space to work is what will drive success. For me, this makes Fidelity stand out as an employer as I feel part of this progress.
I’ve always struggled with anxiety, but I didn’t think much of it until the pandemic when I found out I had OCD. To begin with I only let a few people on my team know, but I was invited to share my story for International Day of Persons with Disabilities which had an overwhelmingly positive response. I’m probably a good example of looking fine from the outside and this helped open people's eyes to something of a taboo subject. By letting me be myself, I don’t worry about my OCD and that allows me to do the best job I can.
I think it's great that Fidelity champions internal networks to help raise awareness of various perspectives. Embracing a diverse workforce allows us to truly resonate with our customers and remain relevant in an ever-changing marketplace.
