FAQs

We offer a range of Early Careers programmes across locations including Hong Kong, Dalian, Frankfurt, London, Dublin, and Gurgaon. Our available programmes vary each year - you can view our programmes here to understand what opportunities are in your area, as well as our open vacancies. If you have questions, please reach out to our team at earlycareersatfidelity@fil.com

UK: London and Surrey
Ireland: Dublin
Continental Europe: Italy and Germany
India: Gurgaon, Noida, Mumbai
Canada: Toronto
Asia Pacific: Hong Kong, Singapore, Shanghai, Taiwan, Dalian, Korea and Japan.

Depending on the programme you join, you may also undertake an international rotation.

Most of our Early Careers programmes are full-time roles. Limited part-time opportunities may be available in selected offices, such as Dalian. Please reach out to us at earlycareersatfidelity@fil.com to discuss.

We recognise that career growth is enhanced through internal mobility. While you are on your Early Careers programme, the opportunities to move will be different. Some of our programmes, such as our Fixed Income graduate programme, are rotational meaning you move into different departments as part of the programme. Others, like our Equity Research graduate programme, are ‘straight to desk’ meaning you remain with your team for the duration of the programme. We encourage you to always talk to your line manager or the Early Careers team about your interest in other teams.

If you finish your programme with us and secure a permanent role, Fidelity has many options for internal mobility, and we encourage our employees to take on new and different opportunities. For example, we have apprentices who joined us in Operations and now work in Communications, or graduates who joined us in Business Management who now work in Fixed Income! We hope that our Early Careers programmes will be a strong foundation for a future career with Fidelity, whatever that looks like.

The type of contract you receive is determined by the type of programme you have.

  • Apprentices: 2-year fixed term contract
  • Interns: 10-12-week fixed term contract
  • Industrial placements: 12-month fixed term contract
  • Graduates: permanent employment contract

We like to see your interest in Fidelity, the Asset Management industry, and your chosen business area. We do not seek pre-existing technical skills or experience in our industry, but we do seek an understanding of what we do and what you would need to do in the role and team you are applying for. Strong candidates will be prepared and have done their research, reading widely (beyond just the ‘About Us’ page on our website) and show a genuine enthusiasm for this opportunity. We want to know what drives and motivates you in life, so don't be afraid to express yourself. Completing our Virtual Internship Experiences is a great place to start!

The Fidelity culture is underpinned by two core values; trust and integrity. Both values are fundamental in nature and hold utmost importance when we're looking for new talent to join us. We'd encourage you to apply if you share the same values and can demonstrate you're brave, bold, curious, and act with compassion. We encourage you to think of examples of when you have demonstrated these values and behaviours, and to make sure you demonstrate them throughout our recruitment process.

Our values

  • Integrity: doing the right thing, every time and putting the client first
  • Trust: empowering each other to take the initiative and make good decisions

Our behaviours

  • Brave: challenging the status quo, being accountable and speaking up
  • Bold: acting with conviction, encouraging diverse thinking and keeping things simple curious. Learning to do new things in better ways and encouraging fresh thinking Compassionate: having empathy, caring for colleagues, clients and community.

We open applications for many of our programmes between August and September, however it does vary depending on the programmes available and the location. You can register your interest across programmes and locations here, to be the first to know when applications open. We strongly encourage you to apply as soon as possible as places are limited and competition is strong. We will screen applications and start to offer positions on a rolling basis.

If you have any questions, please reach out to us at earlycareersatfidelity@fil.com.

Yes. You can register your interest here.

No. We like to know that you’ve done your research into the different opportunities available and that you’re fully motivated by the business area of your choice. You can only apply to one programme in one location each hiring year. If you try to make more than one application, our system will flag this as a duplicate, and none of your applications will be able to progress.

Yes - providing you applied to us in an earlier recruitment cycle, as you can only apply to one programme in one location each hiring year. Do also take the time to carefully consider the reasons you were not successful in your previous application, taking into account any feedback received.

No. Our summer internship programme is only open to penultimate year university students, due to the opportunity to convert the internship position into a graduate position the following year.

Yes, we offer Industrial Placements of 12 months in the UK, in our Technology business areas. These are suitable for students on a ‘Year in Industry’ degree programme and are undertaken after your second year (excluding any foundation years). Read more about our Industrial Placement opportunities.

No, we are only able to offer the programmes that we advertise. We cannot arrange bespoke internships.

This varies by programme and location. If we are unable to provide sponsorship for a programme, the job description will state that you must already hold the Right to Work in the country you are applying to. For example, we cannot offer sponsorship for our apprenticeship programmes.
If the job description does not specify that you must already hold the Right to Work, then if you meet the role criteria, progress through the recruitment process and are then offered a position but require a visa to work in the location you are applying to, we can provide you with sponsorship and assist with the application on your behalf.

You should be aware that approval of a working visa is beyond the control of Fidelity and will always be subject to local immigration laws and eligibility.

Yes. We welcome and encourage applications from students at all universities, colleges, and schools, from all educational backgrounds. As long as you meet the criteria in the job description and you feel excited about Fidelity, we want to hear from you! It’s who you are that matters here, not what you study.

For example, we have many examples of Early Careers talent in our investing teams who have never studied Finance or worked in our industry before.

You don’t need to have a degree in Finance or Economics to work in Asset Management. We are open to considering any degree subject, so long as you are engaged, smart and intellectually curious. Our people are encouraged to think innovatively and challenge the status quo and you’ll need to be client-focused and an effective communicator. If you have the right attitude, we can give you the knowledge and the technical skills you will need to be successful.

For our graduate, summer internship, and industrial placements, we accept applications from all subject backgrounds and degree disciplines. We have no grade requirements.

For apprenticeships in the UK, we require a grade 4 or above to be achieved in GCSE Maths and English for all roles. For some apprenticeships, we will require you to have achieved a Further Education Qualification, and/or to have achieved 5 GCSEs/a Level 2 apprenticeship qualification as well. The criteria will be laid out in the job description for each role. We accept applications from all subject backgrounds.

For Level 6 (non-graduate) apprenticeships in Ireland, minimum entry requirements are usually a grade H7/O6 or above in five leaving certificate (or equivalent) subjects. A minimum of grade O6 must be obtained in English. A minimum of grade O6 or a B2 or above in Foundation level must be obtained in Mathematics. Holders of a QQI Level 5 Certificate in Business (or equivalent) or QQI Level 6 Advanced Certificate in Business (or equivalent) can apply for entry onto the programme. Non-standard applications will be also considered on an individual basis. Applicants under 21 will be assessed based on Leaving Certificate or equivalent. Level 8 (graduate) apprenticeships have additional requirements, which will be detailed in the job description.

If you have questions about a particular role and the requirements, please email us at earlycareersatfidelity@fil.com.

We welcome applications from Masters and PhD students for our graduate programmes. Please apply to the programme you feel best suits your skill set.

We welcome all applications; however, our graduate programmes are entry-level so they may not be best suited to meet your career aspirations if you already have substantial, and relevant, work experience. Visit our opportunities for experienced professionals for details of our other opportunities.

We review each application on its own merits, and we know that every individual has unique circumstances. If you'd like to discuss any role with the team, please reach out to earlycareersatfidelity@fil.com.

The exact application and recruitment process will vary with the role or programme you’re applying to and is tailored to meet business needs and the profiles we are looking for. Typically, it will involve an application form and CV, online assessment, an interview, and then an assessment centre.

We encourage you to look at our website pages carefully, and the job description of the role you are applying for. All our recruitment is based around a strengths-based approach to try and find out what engages and motivates you. We encourage you to talk about examples from your work, school, and personal life to demonstrate to us the strengths that you have, thinking about why those are relevant to the role or programme.

The exact structure of assessment centres can vary slightly depending on the programme you apply for. They will always follow a strengths-based assessment process. The assessment centre will feature a combination of some, if not all, of the following elements: face-to-face interview, group exercise, and case study or technical assessment. If you are invited to an assessment centre, the Early Careers team will brief you on what you can expect and how you can prepare.

This varies by programme and location. No matter whether your interview takes place in-person at our offices or virtually, you’ll have the opportunity to tell us about yourself and find out what it's like to work here.

If you are asked to attend an in-person interview or assessment centre, travel and accommodation expenses will be reimbursed within the guidelines we set and upon proof of original receipts. These guidelines will be sent to you when you’re invited to the relevant stage.

If you need adjustments or support to perform at your best, please reach out to us at earlycareersatfidelity@fil.com

Fidelity International is an equal opportunities employer and Disability Confident employer. We are committed to being an inclusive and diverse company to work for with a policy of considering all applications fairly.

We try to provide an update and outcome as soon as possible following an interview. While we provide detailed feedback following an assessment centre, we are not able to give feedback on initial applications or interviews due to the volume of applications we receive.

Summer Interns and Industrial Placements start in June each year. Graduates and Apprentices start in September.

We are unable to defer entry. If you are unable to commence on the start date specified in the job description, we advise that you apply to us for the following year. Our internships have specific criteria regarding your stage of education, but our graduate and apprentice programmes are suitable.

We believe in rewarding employees fairly. This means a highly competitive salary and benefits package, for everyone, benchmarked in line with other leading employers in the financial services industry. The salary varies by location and programme and is not disclosed before the offer stage (apart from apprentices).

We offer a very competitive benefits package that will support you during your programme at Fidelity. The benefits you receive will all depend on your location and role. See our ‘Why Fidelity?’ page to find out more.

We have our own expert in-house team who manage pre-employment vetting on our behalf with the support of carefully selected external partners. We take our screening seriously as we have a duty of care to our customer and business to ensure we are fair and reasonable in our verification process and that we seek to hire people with only the highest standards of honesty and integrity. Screening can vary depending on location and regional legislation, and whether a role is subject to enhanced regulatory requirements.

Log into your candidate profile, where you'll be able to see an update on your application. We will send you email updates, but these may go to your junk folder, so remember to check there as well. If you have any additional questions or concerns, please reach out to us at earlycareersatfidelity@fil.com.

Yes. We operate an alumni group via LinkedIn - Fidelity International Alumni - for those who leave us and want to keep in touch. We are, however, always keen to speak to those wishing to return to Fidelity International.

Yes, we offer Spring Insight programmes, targeted at first year undergraduates (or second year students if studying a four-year course). Through a series of workshops and interactive sessions we aim to provide an insight into Asset Management as an industry, our organisation and help you to decide if it’s right for you. You can read more here.

Yes. We run a Year 13 Apprenticeships Insight Day event each February in Surrey, for Year 13 or gap year students interested in these roles. We also run a 5-day Work Experience programme in Surrey in July, and an Insight Day in London in August, both suitable for students in Years 10-13. You can read more here and register your interest as well.

Please contact us by email at Fidelity-E-HRServices@Fil.com with your full name and user name associated with your candidate account (this is usually your email address), and we'll arrange to have your details removed from our systems.

We are a flexible employer and encourage our people to perform their role in the way that works best for them and for the business. We have a broad framework of choice around working patterns and locations - many roles follow the ‘Dynamic Working’ policy where you are asked to attend your home office location at least 8 days per month, but some roles will have individual requirements such as Client Services roles. This is a great question you can ask at an interview stage!

You can email us at directly at earlycareersatfidelity@fil.com. The address is monitored globally but is not monitored on weekends or public holidays. During peak recruitment periods we receive a high volume of queries so there may be a delay in our response - we will come back to you as soon as we can.
