Intro

This is the WYSYWYG

What I will be doing

Summer internships are a 10-week full-time programme, commencing in June. Over the course of the 10-weeks, you’ll have the opportunity to work on live projects, attend meetings and make your own recommendations.

We welcome applications from all degree disciplines, however you will need to be in the penultimate year of your university degree.

Graduate programmes are two-year full-time programmes, commencing in September. Over the course of the 2 years you will:

  • Learn about our fund range and understand the commercial drivers of the different fixed income strategies. You will respond to client queries and act as the liaison between portfolio managers and distribution colleagues.
  • Evaluate the creditworthiness of issuers, analyse the risks involved and assess the value of their debt securities, ultimately contributing investment ideas and recommendations.
  • Study market activity and monitor and execute trade activity on behalf of client funds where appropriate. You will use this to develop an insight into how market liquidity influences investment decisions.
  • Have the opportunity to spend 6 months enhancing your skills and knowledge away from the core teams, to further your focus on additional elements of the investment process or specialist functions.

What we look for

We welcome applications from all degree-disciplines. We’re looking for highly driven people with intellectual curiosity, ambition, resilience, commercial awareness, comfort with numeracy, and an absolute commitment to serving the best interests of our clients.

Thirst for Knowledge

You will be intellectually curious and possess the ability and creativity to collect and analyse a range of information, then use it to make judgements on the prospects of industries.

Analytical Skills

You will have the ability to undertake often complex research, interpret data and judge the merits of differing opinions, and form insights essential to ensure we make wise investments for our clients

Articulate & Persuasive

You’ll need the tenacity and confidence to communicate your judgement on whether debt securities should be bought or sold and justify your thinking (often with imperfect information).

Interns

You will need to be in the penultimate year of your degree and available to complete 10 weeks of full-time work this coming summer.

Final year or recent graduate

You need to have graduated by September in the year you want to join us and available to start full-time work from the beginning of next September.

Where you will be based

Our Fixed Income roles are available in:

The working model involves balancing time in the office with working from home, known as Smart Working. While the typical arrangement is three days in the office and two days from home, this may vary between teams.

It's important to live within commuting distance of the office to spend time with the team in person and virtually, and access internal support networks for success.

Learning & development

You will be highly valued here and your development is heavily invested in. Find out about the support and training you receive with your programme.

Application process / How we hire

We like well-rounded applicants, which is why we will ask you questions that will highlight your personality and potential, rather than just numerical capabilities.

1. Online application and online strengths assessment

Our online application form is a quick and easy process designed to take as little time as possible. You will just need to provide an up to date CV.

When you submit your application form you will be automatically invited to complete our on-line assessment within 5 days. (Please check you spam/junk mail folder for the invite). If you fail to do so, your application will be automatically withdrawn. Our online testing uses a fun neuroscience-based test to help you show off your best traits.

2. Strengths-based interview /  Business-Line Virtual Interview

This is your first opportunity to connect with the business. We will revert to your answers on ‘motivation’ in your application and will be exploring core strengths to include resilience, curiosity, analytical thinking, innovation and being a self-starter.

3. Assessment centre

This is the final-stage of assessment. During the assessment, you will be involved in a mix of technical, commercial, and motivational interviews, and a technical case study exercise. The day is also a great chance for you to meet different members of the team here at Fidelity and ask any questions you have about the business - this day is as much about you making sure Fidelity is the right place for you as us assessing your strengths.

Stand out at the assessment centre and we’ll offer you a place on the programme. We can assign you a current graduate as a buddy to help with your decision making. Plus, they’ll continue to be on hand to support you throughout your early career at Fidelity.
